Experienced Associate Producer for Documentary in Distribution



Unrest premiered in the documentary competition at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, where it won a Special Jury Prize for editing. It has since screened at SxSW, CPH:DOX, HotDocs, River Run (Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature), and the Nashville Film Festival (Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary Feature), among other festivals. It will be featured on PBS Independent Lens in early 2018.

Unrest is a recipient of Sundance Institute's inaugural Creative Distribution Fellowship.



The Unrest team at Shella Films is looking for an experienced (2+ films) associate producer to work with our internal team and external distributors and consultants on the theatrical, TVOD, Independent Lens broadcast, and educational release of Unrest as we pursue a hybrid distribution strategy.



  • Overseeing all deliverables to distributors and post houses

  • Supervising AE/post coordinator

  • Managing aspects of our Creative Distribution Sundance Fellowship with the film’s producer, including documentation for the case study of the fellowship

  • Managing relationships and schedule of marketing, press, and publicity work

  • Support the producers in establishing educational distribution partnership

  • Project management for DVD release

  • Maintaining overall distribution calendar and internal and external meeting coordination

  • Submitting and tracking distribution invoices and budget

  • Ongoing communication and coordination with the Director

  • Report directly to Producer and Chief of Staff



  • Served as a producer or associate producer on at least 2 previous films

  • Experience with video and paper deliverables for TVOD and broadcast

  • Experience with supervising post production teams

  • The ability to think creatively under pressure and keep a positive outlook.

  • LOVE of details, keeping things on schedule, and balancing multiple urgent priorities at a time, while keeping long term aims in sight


This is a full-time position starting immediately through March 2018, based out of Glendale, California.
